Reflection on Sunday's Guest Speaker, Jeff Mooney
What a wake up call for American Christians to reinforce their identity in Christ!
So how do you view yourself and your position in the the world? If someone were to ask you, "What are you?", what is the first answer to come to your mind? Teenager? American? Drummer? Athlete? How you answer this question determines how you life and affects the choices you make. An athlete will choose to commit to practice over a prayer group. A teenager would rather be on facebook than be in Sunday School. A Christian will commit to the prayer group and take it to the practice field. A Christian will spread the truths learned in Sunday School when he nexts logs onto facebook.
Jesus did not live the perfect life, die as our ransom, and conquer death so we can be good at sports. He did this so that while we compete as athletes, we proclaim his praises!
"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of kdarkness into His marvelous light;" 1 Peter 2:9
And since He came to save us, giving Himself up for us, we should be excited to bring the praises of God with us wherever we go!
"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works." Titus 2:11-14
When we view ourselves as first and foremost God's chosen generation, His holy nation, His own special people, we are forced to bare the responsibility and privilege of proclaiming the praises of the One who called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light. We have no choice but to live it!
